By Karen

Flowers of spring.  I made this wall hanging about 10 years ago -- I think.  The pattern I believe was by Carol Armstrong – I no longer have any of her books but I think that is her name.  I don’t recall seeing any books from her in a long time.  She was the person I called the “queen of wildflower applique” for a long time.   This particular pattern was in a magazine, I still have the pattern somewhere but not the magazine so I don’t know which it was in – years ago though.  I no I had it for some years before I made it.  I wish now that I still had some of her books, I only had a couple but didn’t think I would use them anymore and traded them off to others.

I really tried to keep my stitches small on this one – I’m not usually concerned over stitch size but seeing as this is a small wall hanging I wanted the stitches small.

The lines change throughout the quilt.

Have a Happy Easter everyone

Oh Spring, where art thou?

We're still under a couple feet of snow and it will be a while before spring flowers start to bloom.  This time of year, out comes my tulip quilt to celebrate the time of year.  Last spring, we were in the process of moving and my tulip quilt didn't get hung on the wall.  This year, we are renovating our new home and I fear it won't see daylight either.  Oh well .... next year.

Here is my tulip quilt so that we all can enjoy seeing it!

A close-up of the hand qulting .... I love doing circles .... so simple .... so effective.
Have a great day!

Spring is (almost) in the air…

Well, not really!  I mean, today marked the first day of spring, however in Michigan right now we have snow and 28 degrees.  Yuck!

But here are a few quilts with flowers to put you in a springy mood!

Bow Tie Medallion

By: Karen

Do you get part way through quilting a quilt and then wish you had decided to quilt it a different way – sometimes that could mean either you wish you hadn’t put as much quilting in it or more?

This quilt that I am working on right now on my big floor standing frame is called Bow Tie Medallion.  I made the top about 3 or 4 years ago and finally put it on the quilting frame back in December I think it was.  Now I wish I had chosen not to put quite so much quilting in it.

I have not been making fast progress with this quilt.  Due to some arthritis issues in my right thumb I had to take some time off of quilting and just stick with piecing for awhile.  Now I am back to quilting but wish I had went with less quilting on this quilt!  I am nearing the half way mark though so that is good.

This is the section I was working on last night.

This is what the whole top looks like – at times I have to look at an old photo to remember what the whole quilt looks like!  When I see the whole photo then I can tell for sure I am almost half way done! – one more crank down and I will be quilting at the half way mark – it usually seems to go faster when I can almost see the end in sight.
