Loving That Hand Quilting

By:  Audrey

My Vintage Reproduction quilt
Sometimes I feel a bit of a fraud posting on this blog.  I'm definitely not as skilled a hand quilter as many of the others who post here!  The thing is, hand quilting has long been known for as an art that any and all can take part in and receive the same amounts of pleasure.  We live in a day and age where we have amazing options available to us in the finishing of our quilts, but still, there are those of us that choose to hand quilt anyway.  Maybe it's because we're a stubborn lot, but I don't really think so.  I think it's because we've come to understand the benefits of slowing down and taking the time to really appreciate the labor of our hands.  Why bother counting the hours involved in bringing a quilt to fruition?  You and I both know that's never been the point anyway.*wink

  1. love your quilt - yes I think we are a stubborn lot that like to cling to the old ways - in a way anyhow - it is so comforting to just sit and quilt and not have the noise of a sewing machine going.

    And thankyou for your words.
I tried to quilt with my machine, but i don't like it.
My way is quilting with my hands, i love the time to hear a good book with my I-pod, a conversation with my BH or simply thinking about all.

  7. I think by hand quilting you put a little bit of you in it. If you are making it for someone chances are you will be thinking about them whist sewing that's gotta send good vibes hasn't it?

  8. Lovely quilt. I make quilts just for the joy of knowing I'll get to hand quilt it too.
