Ringing in the New Year

By: Glenn Dragone

I have lots of projects swirling around in my head for 2013.

I’m finishing a scrappy quilt top, which will be next in my hoop, that has been giving me ideas of things to create next.

And now, I’m working on a Hawaiian quilt, using Aurifil 28 grey spool in the border. Do check this thread out, if you haven’t already. I’ve become a big fan of it; and this from a YLI purest.

I hope 2013 brings joy and happiness to you and yours. Happy New Year!

More is More

by Marjorie Rich

Sometimes less is more.

But when it comes to hand quilting, I seem to always lean toward MORE!

After reading all the suggestions left on my November post, I started making a simple, triple diamond shaped grid.  I was having trouble getting the spacing right, a process that involved drawing the grid with a wash away pen, hating it, spritzing it off, etc.  While I was waiting for the quilt to dry, I started cleaning off the bookshelf and found a book on Sashiko.

Mmmmm. So pretty.  It makes me smile every time I look at it.
While there is far more quilting than is really needed where the applique is detailed, it is the perfect answer for those big, blank white spots.

This is my #1 priority project for 2013.

As requested....here's the whole top before the quilting began.

2013 coming up!

2013 is coming and I am looking forward to the new year. I plan to do lots of hand quilting on a project that has been Work In Progress since 2003. What? Yep, 2003.

It was my first big project, pieced by hand. I couldn't get myself to finishing it. I laid it aside and worked on many other projects. The quilt is now on my frame again. I have one small quilt to finish (1'x1'), and then I hope to finish the quilt in 2013. That's 10 years of experience in one. I wanted to finish it in 2012, but hey, my book release got in the way ;-)

This year I won't visit the US as often. There will be way more time for hand quilting! Look forward to what you will be working on in 2013!

French Boutis Quilting

For those of you interested in making a whole cloth quilt, I just happened upon a great article on French Boutis quilting.  You can see it on Donna Rodgers’ blog

Pinterest has a lot of wonderful photos as well.

It's That Time of Year

By Tim Latimer

It is about time to pack up the Christmas decorations and start the New Year.  I took this picture today because the tree makes such a pretty backdrop for my whole cloth quilt, and I wanted to capture the image before the decorations are gone.

I hope everyone had a wonderful Holiday Season and I wish you all a Joyful New Year!

Happy Quilting
Tim

Merry Christmas to all hand quilters of the world!!!

Merry Christmas to all hand quilters from all over the world. And although Santa might give sewing machines for Christmas, here is the living proof: Santa is a hand quilter. I bet because Mrs. Claus protects her sewing machine with her life.;-)

Have fun quilting, also during Christmas!

Finally some quilting by Françoise

I quilt during autumn and winter preferably. Allthough winter has since long begun (and I am already sick of it) it's only been a couple of days since I manage to start quilting this year. And it feels soooooo good.
